Are There Multiple Legendary Pokemon in the Game? (How Many Legendary Pokémon Are in the Game?)

I enjoy replaying older titles to collect Legendaries. Recently, I got The Crown Tundra expansion pass and was pleasantly surprised to find all my favorite Legendaries 😁.

Curious, I decided to find out how many they were in that game.

My research led me down a rabbit hole, and here’s what I learned…

There are 66 Legendary Pokemon in the game, with Psychic, Dragon, and Steel types making up the bulk of this number. Bug and Poison types have the fewest numbers.

Additionally, there are 22 mythical Pokemon 🧐.

Legendary Pokemon are a rare and powerful group often featured in the myths and stories of the Pokemon world. They’re basically gods in the Pokemon universe.

Legendary Pokemon in the games are rare, with high base stats, and often available through raids, field research, and special events.

Interestingly, this number has significantly increased since the first-generation games. These only had five legendaries, including Mew.

Some believe this influx in Legendaries ruined the game, while others like it 🤓. Here’s a table listing the Legendaries in each generation 👇.

Which Pokemon game has the most Legendaries?

Pokemon Sword and Shield has the most Legendaries, with a whopping 66! The Crown Tundra expansion accounts for 54 of them.

Sword and Shield debuted in November 2019. It’s playable in nine languages and takes you on an adventure through the Galar region.

This game had two expansions- the Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra. The Isle of Armor was released in June 2020, and The Crown Tundra in October 2020.

The game developers reintroduced Legendary Pokemon from the previous generation into this game, particularly The Crown Tundra Expansion, resulting in the insane numbers mentioned.

Is there only 1 of each Legendary Pokémon?

Yes, there is only one of each Legendary Pokemon. Remember, Legendary Pokemon are rare and powerful monsters. They’re a big part of the myths and legends of the Pokemon Universe.

In fact, some of these are deities. For instance, the Sinnoh legends credit the creation of the Pokemon Universe to Arceus, a Legendary Pokemon.

Due to their rarity and rich history, there is often only one of each Legendary, with most remaining genderless and without known egg groups.
