Pokémon games have always been my favourite since I was a kid. I often breed Pokémon to create more powerful creatures with enhanced skills to face my opponents in battle.
However, many people have often wondered if it’s possible to breed legendary Pokémon. The already powerful creatures would be great if bred to even more powerful Pokémon, but can this be done?
I’m excited to share if you can breed Legendary Pokémon.
So, let’s chat about the possibility of this breeding, what Legendary Pokémon you can breed, and much more! 😄
Why can’t Legendary Pokémon breed?
Legendary Pokémon can’t breed because they are considered unique and powerful creatures 💪. Multiplying Legendaries makes them lose their purpose as rare Pokémon.
The game design makes sure that they remain special. Their genders are also usually unknown. If we could breed Legendary Pokémon, it would be disastrous.
Having extremely strong Pokémon would break single-player gaming. Trainers would probably only use Legendary Pokémon and their variants and abandon other Pokémon.
Any other player not using Legendaries would get defeated.
Legendary Pokémon are the most pursued Pokémon, and it would be pointless if trainers could hatch them in nurseries.
What is the only Legendary Pokémon that can breed?
The only Legendary Pokémon that can breed is Manaphy. The marine Pokémon Manaphy can breed with Ditto to produce Phoine. Phoine is a weaker variant of Manaphy with no Tail Glow and Heart Swap.
It cannot evolve into Manaphy. Manaphy can only breed once, but Phoine can breed with a Ditto to produce another Phoine.
Can you breed a Legendary with a ditto?
Yes, Ditto is the only Pokémon that can breed with a Legendary, Manaphy. Apart from Manaphy, you cannot breed a Legendary with a Ditto.
Even though Ditto is perfect for breeding and can pair with any Pokémon that can breed regardless of gender, you cannot breed it with a Legendary Pokémon.
Legendaries are meant to be rare and are in the Undiscovered Egg group. Phoine is the only Pokémon hatched from breeding a Legendary with a Ditto.
What Pokémon can you get from breeding Legendary Pokémon?
The only Pokémon you can get from breeding a Legendary Pokémon is Phoine. Phoine is a breed between Manaphy and a Ditto. Below are its characteristics:
Phoine | |
Parent Pokémon |
Manaphy ( Marine Legendary Pokémon) + Ditto (Normal-type). |
Type |
Water-type. |
Ability |
Phoine, also the Sea Drifter Pokémon, can drift just below the water surface when the floatation sac on its head inflates. |
Can you breed Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield?
No, you cannot breed Legendary Pokémon in either Pokémon Sword or Shield 🤧. If you leave a Legendary Pokémon with another Pokémon in the nursery to breed for about 20 minutes, you will not find any egg.
You will be informed that ‘they don’t seem to like playing with each other.’
It indicates that the breeding pair is incompatible because Legendary Pokémon cannot breed in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
