I started collecting Pokémon cards in the 90s. There’s a good chance that I have some valuable first-edition cards. Here is how I identified my first-edition cards:
- First-edition stamp: I found it on the left side of the Pokémon card. On Energy Cards, find the stamp on the top right corner. On Trainer Cards, find the stamp in the bottom left corner.
- No drop shadow on artwork: Inspect the artwork’s box for a darker drop shadow along the edge of the right side. If the artwork is in one uniform color, with a stamp on the left side, it’s a first edition.
- Copyright date “99”: At the very bottom of the Pokémon card, if the card reads “1995,96,98,99 Nintendo, Creatures, GAMEFREAK” next to the copyright symbol, it is an authentic card.
How do I know if my holographic Charizard is real or fake?
