While growing up, the thought of Pokémon being banned never crossed my mind until recent world events. In Russia, Pokémon Go is not available.
I know you are wondering how such a ban on Pokémon happened in Russia. Well, you are in the right place.
If you want to learn more about the ban on Pokémon in Russia, read ahead and learn more about Pokémon Go in Russia and get to know if the ban will be lifted🏋️.
What regional Pokémon are in Russia?
Since the suspension of Pokémon Go in Russia, Pokémon, such as Pachirisu, that used to be in Russia are no longer available.
Many Pokémon creatures are exclusive to particular places, with multiple species appearing in each generation.
A few regional Pokémon would have been in Russia since Russia is in Europe and the northern hemisphere.
Therefore, all Pokémon allowed in Europe would have been in Russia. Some of these regional Pokémon are:
Pokémon |
Region |
Volbeat |
Anywhere within the European continent. |
Pachirisu |
Alaska Canada Russia |
Mime Jr. |
Europe |
Chikorita Cyndaquil Totodile Larvitar Autumn Deerling Tyrunt Amaura |
Northern Hemisphere |
These are just a few on the list. With the halt of Pokémon operations in Russia, these Pokémon are unavailable.
Why did Pokémon Go pull out of Russia?
The cause is Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which started on February 24, 2022. Not long after the invasion began, Mykhailo Fedorov, the vice prime minister of Ukraine, called for “game development and esports platforms” to stop operating in Russia.
Afterwards, Niantic(the creator of Pokémon Go) decided to pull out of Russia, citing that they stand with the global community in hoping for peace and a rapid resolution to the violence and suffering in Ukraine, Which was tweeted on March 11, announcing their decision to suspend downloads and sales in Russia.
The decision to move from Russia was also due to other gaming companies moving from Russia.🥲
Can you still download and play Pokémon Go in Russia?
Unfortunately, you cannot download and play Pokémon Go in Russia😠. This is because all sales and downloads were prohibited in Russia after it invaded Ukraine.
So, as a measure of solidarity with Ukraine, Niantic(the creator of Pokémon Go) suspended its operations in Ukraine.
Therefore, the gameplay of Pokémon Go in Russia is prohibited until the war stops.
Will Pokémon return to Russia?
How long Niantic’s service suspension in the area will persist is unknown💔. Unless Russia and Ukraine reach a peace deal, there won’t be any Pokémon Go online monster-catching in Russia, as the business has decided to support a “rapid resolution to the violence and suffering in Ukraine.”
The possibility of Pokémon returning to Russia is not well assured as it depends on many factors. One of the factors is the end of the war in Ukraine.
Even if the war ends, Niantic’s’ choice depends on many influences, such as the business environment, operating expenses, etc.
