Is Zorua Rare in Pokemon Go? (How Rare Is Zorua in Pokémon Go?)

I was stoked when Niantic re-introduced Zorua in Pokemon Go in 2022. However, there was a problem- I couldn’t find it 😕.

Thinking it was another bug, I scoured community forums for a solution. That’s when I saw someone’s step-by-step guide for catching Zorua.

I followed the steps and, soon enough, captured my first Zorua. I quickly evolved it to Zoroark.

Here’s how I did it…

Initially, Zorua was intended to be a surprise encounter Pokemon Go. However, a bug during the Shuppet Spotlight Hour ruined the surprise, resulting in Zorua appearing earlier.

Niantic fixed this error, allowing players to catch Zorua as intended.

Zorua doesn’t take its regular form in Pokemon Go. Instead, it takes on the appearance of your Buddy Pokemon.

This makes finding Zorua difficult, especially if your Buddy Pokemon frequently appears in the wild.

However, there’s a simple workaround for this to ensure you’ll catch Zorua: Use a unique Buddy Pokemon 🤓.

As mentioned, Zorua disguises himself as your Buddy Pokemon. Therefore, using a unique Pokemon is the best way to spot it. Here’s how to switch Buddy Pokemon:

  1. Launch the Pokemon Go app.
  2. Hit the Buddy Pokemon icon at the bottom left corner of your screen.
  3. Select “Swap Buddies.”
  4. Tap “Yes” to confirm.
  5. Select a Legendary, Shadow, Purified, or Shiny Pokemon to set as your Buddy Pokemon.

Setting a Shiny or Shadow Pokemon is the best way to catch a Zorua. As you know, Shiny Pokemon don’t reveal themselves as such, but Zorua will. Likewise, Shadow and Purified Pokemon have a purple or white aura, which Zorua will show.

Once you’ve spotted a Zorua, use a Poke ball to capture it. You’ll know you’ve caught a Zorua when you get a popup saying “Oh?” that precedes a magenta screen revealing Zorua’s form.

What are the odds of getting a Zorua in Pokemon Go?

The exact odds of catching Zorua remain unclear 🤷. However, since it’s a rare Pokemon with shapeshifting abilities, we can deduce that your odds of running into one are slim.

It’s worth noting that Zorua was more common at the beginning.

Over time, Zorua acquired the status of a rare Pokemon. Luckily, once you spot one, catching it is a breeze.

As mentioned, Zorua is hard to catch because of its shapeshifting ability. In the wild, it takes the form of your Buddy Pokemon, making it harder to find.

Therefore, your best bet is to use a Rare, Legendary, Shiny, or Shadow Pokemon as your Buddy. Once you catch a Zorua, evolve it to Zoroark using 50 Zorua Candy.
