These guys helped me beat the Elite Four and finally capture Zekrom. Pokemon Black is one of my favorite games. I remember playing it as a teenager and choosing the worst team ever with Snivy as my starter.
In my defense, it reminded me of Sherlock Holmes 👇. Nevertheless, I replayed the game and decided to pick another team. Here’s what I learned from the process…

Samurott
Samurott is one of the starters in Pokemon Black. This water type evolves from the cute Oshawott. Despite its average stats, Samurott is the most practical choice for playing this game since it can learn all three water HMs. It also has the Torrent ability that raises its water attack power by 50%. Finally, it learns Megahorn, Ice Beam, and Return.
Scrafty
This Dark / Fighting-type Pokemon has strong attack, defense, and Special defense stats. Scrafty has the Moxie ability that increases its attack by one stage after fainting its opponents. To capitalize on this Pokemon, teach it Brick Break, Crunch, Rock Slide, and Chip Away. These moves make Scrafty a formidable fighter capable of handling most of the Elite Four.
Archeops
Every team needs a flier, and Archeops is the Pokemon for the job. This Rock / Flying- type has strong attack, speed, and Special attack stats. Give this Pokemon a Jolly nature and teach it Fly, Rock Slide, U-turn, and Dragon Claw to make it a formidable fighter. However, watch out for its Defeatist ability that halves Archeops’ HP when the attack and special attacks are halved.
Galvantula
This Bug / Electric type has decent speed and Special attack stats. It also has Compound Eyes, an ability that raises accuracy by 30%. Galvantula learns Thunder, Energy Ball, Thunder Wave, and Bug Buzz, making it perfect for catching legendaries and other tough Pokemon.
Beartic
Beartic is an Ice Pokemon with a Naive Nature. It learns Icicle Crash, Rock Slide, Grass Knot, and Brine, which makes it a decent fighter. Additionally, it has a Snow Cloak that increases its evasion by 20% during a hail storm.
Gothitelle
A Psychic Pokemon is a valuable addition to any team. Gothitelle has decent defense, special attack, and Special defense stats. It also has Frisk, which lets it see the opponent’s held item. Gothitelle can learn Psychic, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt, and Protect.
How to balance your Pokemon Black team
Consider your Pokemons’ roles in the game to create a balanced team. Each has its stats that make it suitable for specific roles 🧐. They include:
Wall breakers
They are similar to sweepers. These Pokemon hit hard and break through defensive teams. They’re typically slower but deal massive damage.
Tanks
These are Pokemon with high offensive and offensive stats. They often have support, defensive, and status moves that weaken the opponents’ attacks.
Sweepers
Sweepers have high attack, speed, and special attacks, which let them KO their opponents. They’re used to set up attacks and will sometimes finish off opponents.
Stallers
Stallers use status moves to inflict damage. They then alternate between Substitute and healing moves until their opponent faints. Their strategy is to outlast opponents in a battle.

Zekrom is the best Pokemon to build your team with. It’s the game’s mascot and a dragon / electric-type with impressive stats. Zekrom is a legendary Pokemon with a 680 combined base stat, making it a powerful ally. You’ll have to beat the Elite Four to get Zekrom.
