I used to be embarrassed to admit that it took me a while to obtain the Malicious Armor. I felt that as an experienced gamer, it should have been easy for me to beat 10 Sinisteas and capture one.
Sadly, it wasn’t 😣. However, all my failures taught me a lot about catching and defeating this elusive Pokémon.
Keep reading to learn a few tricks of the trade.
How to catch Sinistea in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
To catch a Sinistea in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you need to know where you are likely to catch one. Just like in real estate, it’s all about location.
Unlike other Pokémon, you can only find Sinistea in parts of Paldea. The first location is near the town of Zapapico in the East Province.
If you’re determined to get the Malicious Armor, this is where you’ll find the NPC gatekeeping it.
The other ideal location for catching Sinisteas is around Alfornada. The Sinisteas here are in great condition, unlike the ones in the Eastern Province area.
They also appear more frequently, so you are likely to catch one. Remember that there are two types of Sinisteas; the antique and the phony forms.
The antique form is the most sought-after Sinistea because it is an original through and through. Phoney types are simply good forgeries that function well.
You can tell the authenticity of a Sinister by checking for a tiny blue validity stamp on the bottom ridge of the teacup. If you don’t see the stamp, don’t panic 😩.
Your Sinistea still has the same stats and moves with an antique version. The only difference is that the teacup is an imitation.
A fun fact is that Antique Sinistea can only spawn in Alfornada.

Where can I farm Sinistea?
One of the best areas to farm Sinistea is Zapipico. You should try the small path between the Eastern Center and the ruins.
This process is best done at night when you can easily battle them and head back to the Pokémon Center. After that, go back and check the path for new spawns.
Experts recommend repeating this process until you finish farming. The Muddy area is another perfect addition to your farming grounds.
Later on in the game, you can try the ruins above the town. Alfornada is another location to farm Sinisteas. Most players say that you can spawn Sinistea in large groups in this area.
Where is the earliest place to find Sinistea in Pokémon Violet?
The earliest sighting of Sinistea is around the ruins in Paldea. This is on the outskirts of Zapapico. The Sinistea here tends to come out more at night.
If you want to catch one, you can do it here. Still, the chance of catching an antique is 1 in 100, so be patient if you don’t catch one immediately.
Does Sinistea only spawn at night?
Yes, Sinistea spawns at night. They also spawn in the morning, noon, and evening. Most players suggest looking for these Pokémon is easier during the day. That means you are likely to meet one in the morning or mid-day.
How to evolve a Sinistea in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
You can evolve a Sinistea with a cracked pot or a chipped one. If you have a phoney Sinistea, you need a Cracked Pot to evolve it. Players who have been fortunate enough to catch an Antique Sinistea need a Chipped Pot to evolve it into a Polteageist.
To obtain a Cracked or Chipped Pot, head to Port Marinada’s auction house. Once you are here, wait for an auctioneer to announce a Cracked or Chipped pot.
If it doesn’t happen the first time, wait for the three middle auctioneers to change their products.
This happens every 2 hours during the game. As soon as you 👆 see it, buy it. You’ll have to pay between 18,000 to 18,500.
How do you breed Sinistea in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
Although it’s impossible 🛑 to breed two antique Sinistea, you can use a Ditto to breed one. However, the Pokémon you get won’t be an antique Sinistea. It will be a phoney.
As discussed earlier, hatching a phoney shouldn’t worry you because the performance and stats are similar to those of an antique Sinistea.
