Why do Charizard and Typhlosion have the same stats? (Can a Typhlosion outperform a Charizard?)
For many days now, I have read so many articles and heard people comparing the base stats of the Charizard and Typhlosion, with a number of them debating on which can outperform the other.
Interestingly, I overheard one of them noting that a Typhlosion is just a Charizard without wings 😃.
Funny, right? However, as a player with so much experience with the two characters, I need to explain to you in-depth details about the two Pokémon characters, so how about we walk this journey together?
What are Charizard’s stats?
Charizard has an overall stat of 534, which can be summed up with hit points of 78, a speed of 100, an attack of 84, a defense of 78, a special attack of 109, and a special defense of 85.
These stats are innate and do not change throughout the Charizard’s life.
What are Typhlosion stats?
A Typhlosion has a special attack of 109, an attack of 84, a speed of 100, a special defense of 85, and a defense of 78, with its hit points being 78.
This makes a Typhlosion have the same base stat distribution of 534, just like a Charizard.
Below is a summary of their stats 👇.

Which is stronger between, a Charizard or a Typhlosion?
As per their base stats, the Charizard and Typhlosion have the same strength and performance, but other factors can be used to determine which Pokémon is stronger than the other one. These factors are;
- Typing. A Charizard is a Fire/Flying Pokémon, whereas the Typhlosion is purely a Fire Pokémon. This means that the Charizard is more flexible and will exhibit a lot of strength over the Typhlosion due to its flexibility in facing off with several opponents.
- Mega Evolution. A Charizard has two Mega Evolution (X and Y) boosting its stats and strengths, a trait lacking in Typhlosion.
- Individual training
Can a Typhlosion outperform a Charizard?
Yes 💪, a Typhlosion can outperform a Charizard in specific situations that are dependent on many factors.
As a Fire-typing Pokémon, Typhlosion can outperform a Charizard in a scenario or battle where Fire-type moves are much needed.
For instance, a Charizard is susceptible to Rock and Electric, making it vulnerable to Typhlosion, which can outshine it with either ThunderBolt or Stone Edge move 💥.
Other factors that can make a Typhlosion outshine a Charizard are;
- Move coverage. Unlike the Charizard, Typhlosion has access to Ground moves and can learn more coverage moves like Earthquake and Grass, giving it an immense advantage over Charizard.
- Abilities. Typhlosion has a hidden ability (Flash Fire) that strengthens its Fire-typing technique and reduces incoming Fire-type attacks. This hidden ability makes it effective over a Charizard, a double-type Pokémon, relying also on Fire-type techniques.
- Weather. Even though the two share the same speed, if the weather is sunny, Typhlosion’s Chlorophyl ability doubles its speed, giving it the power to outperform a Charizard with ease.
- Strategies employed by trainers. A Typhlosion will easily outperform a Charizard if it is being utilized by a skilled trainer since s/he knows how to maximize its strengths and use the Charizard’s weaknesses strategically to the Typhlosion’s advantage.
