How to turn off AR mode in Pokémon GO (Is there a way to turn off AR in Pokémon GO?)
Do you remember the craze around playing Pokémon GO in AR mode back in 2016? 🕹️ 😎
I had so much fun walking around my neighborhood hunting down Pokémon characters. Unfortunately, sometimes, a Pokémon I was hunting down would wander off to inaccessible places.
Then, I had to start the hunt for a new Pokemon all over again.
I eventually got tired of it. 😓
I opted to play Pokémon GO indoors, glued to my gaming device. To allow this, I simply turned off AR mode by toggling off the AR switch.

Why does Pokémon GO go into AR mode?
First and foremost, you should understand that Pokémon GO is an Augmented Reality game. The game combines the elements of gaming and real world by using the gaming device GPS location and camera.
It is for this reason that Pokémon Go will often go to AR mode – to give players the ultimate Pokémon Go gaming experience. 🎮🌍
While in AR mode, players can walk around the real-world environment, capturing as many Pokémon characters as possible, making friends, and collecting Pokémon eggs they can later hatch to add more Pokémon to their collection. 🚶♂️🌟🥚
How to turn on AR mode after you’ve turned it off in Pokémon Go
Sometimes, you might need to turn off AR mode for various reasons – which is quite easy. The tricky part now is to turn it on again.
But fret not, as I am here to help you. 🤝🆘
The first thing you have to do is to find another Pokémon by heading out to the nearest Pokestop. When at the Pokestop, you will notice a Pokémon will appear. You do not have to capture it – just engage it so that the AR option can appear on your screen.
Look out for it at the top right corner of your screen. When you see the AR switch, toggle it back on. That is it! 📲🎮
You are now back to having AR mode activated. The next time you engage with your Pokémon will be in AR mode.
If you are having trouble with this, leave the app and go to your device settings. On App permissions, allow Pokémon Go to use your device camera. Go back to the App and try again. 🔄🛠️
What is the difference between AR and AR+ in Pokémon GO?
The difference between AR and AR+ is that AR+ is more realistic with anchoring the Pokémon to the one’s real-world environment.
Pokémon GO, AR+ uses the device camera to capture the player’s environment allowing them to have more interaction with their Pokémon. With AR+, players can even steal a quick photo 📸 with their Pokémon by walking right up to it.
Everything in AR+ is so realistic in that the Pokémon can even detect your movements. For instance, you might notice that if you walk too fast toward your Pokémon, you might scare it off.
AR+ is a welcomed improvement from the AR mode, where Pokémon would walk chaotically through objects and people.
Note that AR+ mode runs through ARKit in iOS devices. You can install this from the Apple Store. The mode is only available to players using iPhone 6s or above.
In Android, it runs through Google ARCore, found on the Google Play Store. It is available for players using Android devices using Android 7.0+ or more. 📱🍏🤖
