I wasn’t always a fan of critical hits. However, the more I play, the more they fascinate me. I remember doing a nuzlocke of Pokemon sword and shield and being destroyed by the critical hits.
This prompted me to learn more about crits and how to improve my chances of landing one.
Here’s what I gathered…
What is the percentage of hitting a critical hit in Pokemon Scarlet?
You have a 4% chance of landing a critical hit in Pokemon Scarlet 🤓. This probability depends on your Pokemon’s moves, abilities, and critical hit ratio.
Here’s a table summarizing the Critical hits stages 👇:
Stage |
Critical hit probability |
0 |
4.17% |
+1 |
12.5% |
+2 |
50% |
+3 |
100% |
What is the highest possible crit rate in Pokémon?
The highest possible critical hit rate in Pokemon is 255/256. This is determined by comparing a random number (0-255) and a threshold value between 0 and 255. Your Pokemon scores a critical hit when this random number doesn’t exceed the threshold value.
For instance, if the threshold value was T, the probability of your Pokemon landing a critical hit would be T/256. Therefore, having the highest Threshold value (255) yields a crit rate of 255/256 🧐.
What are the odds of stone edge crit in Pokemon Scarlet?
Stone Edge has a 12.5% chance of landing a critical hit on your opponent. This physical move has an 80% accuracy and 100 power.
It was introduced in the Generation IV games and was learned using TM71. It learned using TR75 in Sword and Shield and TM150 in Generation IX.
Pokemon with Stone Edge stab their opponents using sharp stones.
Do attack drops affect your chances of getting a critical hit in Pokemon Scarlet?
No 🙅♂️. Attack drops don’t affect your chances of landing a critical hit. For instance, if your Pokemon uses a physical move and is at -1 Attack stage and your opponent is at -2 Defense, the Critical move ignores the attack drop, inflicting 3X damage in games newer than Generation 6.
However, in older games, it will deal four times the damage.
How much damage does a move deal when it lands a critical hit
As mentioned, a critical hit inflicts 1.5 times as much damage. In earlier generations of Pokemon games, critical hits inflicted twice as much damage, and this number was affected by your Pokemon’s level.
Lower-leveled Pokemon dealt less damage than higher-leveled ones. For instance, a level 5 may inflict 1.5 X damage, while a level 20 inflicts 1.8X.
How to increase critical hit chance, Pokémon Scarlet
You can boost your chances of landing a critical hit using moves with higher ratios, items, and abilities. Here’s how:
Moves with higher ratios
Air cutter
This flying-type move was introduced in the Generation 3 games. It targets all opponents with a razor-like wind. The air cutter has a 12.5% chance of landing a critical hit.
Aqua cutter
This water-type move debuted in the Generation 9 games. Your Pokemon uses pressurized water to cut a target like a blade. It takes down a single opponent.
Crabhammer
This water-type move debuted in the Generation 3 games as the signature move for Kingler and Krabby. The Pokemon uses its pincers to hammer opponents and deal damage. It has a 12.5% chance of landing a critical hit.
Items
Additionally, you can increase your chances of landing a critical hit using items like Razor Claw and Scope Lens. The Razor Claw is only available in the Mesagoza Branch of Delibirt Shop. It costs 15,000 Pokedollars, and you’ll need a minimum of 4 gym badges. On the other hand, Scope Lens is available at the Levincia City Delibird Shop for 15,000 Pokedollars.
Abilities
Finally, some abilities like Super Luck, Merciless, and Armor increase your Pokemon’s critical hit ratio. Merciless converts your Pokemon’s attacks into critical hits if your opponent is poisoned.
On the other hand, Super Luck increases your Pokemon’s critical hit ratio by one stage.
